  • Pro Motor Engines owner Mark Smith has been involved in NASCAR racing for over 30 years. His career began building engines for a Winston West Series team. In the early 1990’s, Smith moved to North Carolina and into the dual role of head engine builder and part owner of TriStar Motorsports. TriStar had several accomplishments including winning the 1991 Rookie of the Year award with driver Bobby Hamilton, Sr and putting the first rookie driver on the pole for the coveted Daytona 500 in 1994 with Loy Allen, Jr. After nearly a decade Smith decided to pursue his passion and focus solely on building engines.

This decision has proven to be a successful venture.  TriStar Racing Engines quickly became a thriving independent engine building company in the early 2000’s, providing horsepower to teams in NASCAR Cup, NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Truck series as well as the ARCA series. In 2006, Smith acquired Pro Motor Engines (PME) and his accomplishments continue to excel. Today, PME continues to provide horsepower to all three of the top NASCAR series and additionally builds engines for a number of ARCA and SCCA series teams. Smith’s powerplants have also won 3 NASCAR Truck Series championships in 2003, 2004 and 2009 and most recently the SCCA championship in 2010 and 2011. In addition to the championships, PME has also had numerous bouts of success with over 25 wins and 25 poles in the NASCAR Truck Series alone. Smith received the prestigious MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder of the Year Award back to back in 2008 and 2009 in the NASCAR Truck Series.
